Wauneta M. Brummer
March 3, 1937 - February 4, 2021
Wauneta M. Brummer, 83, passed away on February 4, 2021, at Pratt, Kansas. Wauneta was born March 3, 1937, to Ora and Stella (Garrison) Sowers, on the farm near Murdock, Kansas. She attended Prairie Gem Grade School and then Kingman High School. She married Vernon Brummer on March 24, 1956, at Murdock, Kansas. They had two sons, Joe E. Brummer and Jon E. Brummer. She is survived by her son Joe of Fort Collins, Colorado, his wife Lori, and their 2 sons, James and Tyler; son Jon of Casper, Wyoming, his wife Lynette, and their children, Seth, Emma, Reid, and Eliza; sisters Wilma Warfield of Pretty Prairie, Kansas, and Leona Harrell of Wichita, Kansas; and several nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents, Ora and Stella; brothers Wendell, Loren, Gary, Darrell, and Bob Sowers; and granddaughter, Audrey Marie Brummer. She and Vernon lived on a farm in Harper County, Kansas, where they raised wheat and cattle. Wauneta also worked for the Nashville-Zenda school system as a secretary for over 30 years and enjoyed her many interactions with principals and teachers over the years. She loved to travel, enjoying trips with Vernon to New Orleans and Hawaii with the Coop board. Later, she and Vernon explored a good chunk of the Mountain West while visiting Joe and Jon and their families. They explored parts of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and Montana. Nebraska was also a favorite place to visit. While Joe’s family lived there, she and Vernon came to love sandhill cranes. After Joe’s family moved, they continued to make trips to Kearney to witness the crane migration along the Platte River in the spring. She and Vernon also loved traveling around Kansas, attending various bluegrass concerts, and viewing the wildlife at Salt Plains and Quivira National Wildlife Refuges. Seeing whooping cranes at Quivira was another unforgettable experience for them. Besides traveling and watching wildlife, especially birds, Wauneta loved spending time with her grandkids, playing games with family and friends, doing puzzles, helping with the Zenda Lion’s Club and Methodist Church, and volunteering at the Zenda Museum. She also had a great love for all of her granddogs, especially Cratos, who sat on her lap most of the way to Montana for Tyler’s graduation. For the safety of our elderly and at-risk family and friends, we kindly ask that you wear a mask during the service. Wauneta was good about wearing her mask while out in public and would want to have everyone be safe during her service. Visitation will be Sunday, February 7, from 1 to 5 pm at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, at 10:30. Graveside Services will follow at the Attica Cemetery at 12:30 pm. Memorials may be made to Zenda United Methodist Church in care of Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, KS 67124.
