Norma Jones

Pratt, KS – Norma E. Jones, 76, died May 15, 2013 at South Wind Hospice, Pratt, KS. She was born October 17, 1936 in Haviland, KS the daughter of Howard and Eva M. (Griffin) Ellis. On April 8, 1979 she married Howard D. Jones in Haviland. He survives. Norma was a member and officer of YWCA for a number of years, first woman president of Haviland Booster Club (C of C) and was ‘Booster of the Year’ in 1983, she started the Haviland Recycling Program in 1989, committee member to replace downtown sidewalks, expand Haviland Public Library and sponsor immigrant Laotian family. She was a member of the Haviland United Methodist Church, Financial Secretary of the church for several years, and an officer of Haviland UMW. She was pronouncer for Haviland local and Kiowa County Spelling Bees for many years, member of the Junior SOS Club and Red Hat Society Chapter. Norma served on the Board of Directors of South Central Community Foundation for 6 years and Chairperson of Grants Committee for 2 years. She is survived by her husband Howard, daughters, Janet (Mark) Thew of Loomis, CA, Karen (Bobby) Long of Pratt, granddaughters, Jamie Long of Pratt and Ashley (Justin) Goertz of Pratt, step daughters, Darci Jones of Pratt, Kari Jones of Pratt, Shari (Bruce) Snelling of Newton, KS, step grandchildren, Jarod (Heather) Tibbetts of Kansas City, KS, Jessica (Andrew) Hanvey of Pratt, Kati (Chris) Westerhaus of Pratt, Kylie Snelling of Wichita, KS, brothers, Charles (Lucille) Ellis of Conway Springs, KS, Robert (Anita) Ellis of Haviland, 2 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Sally Ann Ellis. No visitation as cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2013 at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Rd. Pratt, KS 67124. Inurnment will be at Haviland Cemetery in Haviland, KS. Memorials may be made to the Pratt Area Humane Society, South Central Community Foundation or the Haviland United Methodist Church in care of the mortuary.
