Lawrence C. “Bud" Petz, 91, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Leisure Homestead in Saint John. He was born July 24, 1929 in Ellinwood, KS to Lawrence Frank and Lucille (Chalfant) Petz. "Bud" married Clara (Simons) Petz on August 28, 1958 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kingman. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2020. "Bud" owned Baron Barber Shop and Bud's Style and Barber. He was a member of the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. In 1968 he received an appointment from Governor Docking to serve on the board of Barber Examiners, serving until 1971. Following that he accepted the position of State Barber Inspector until 1983 upon his retirement. “Bud” was very active in his community and belonged to many organizations. He was a member of the Pratt Jaycees from 1956-1966 and won 7 Jaycee of the Month Awards. In addition, he held all offices including president of the Jaycees. “Bud” also was a past President of Pratt Rotary Club from 1987-1988. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1948, being a Past Grand Knight, and also a Fourth Degree Knight. He was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge 1451 since 1957. “Bud” was also involved in the Miss Kansas Pageant for 10 years, receiving the Key Man Award, and many certificates of appreciation. He received the Coveted Distinguished Service Award by the Pratt Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. for many years. He served as Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of America for several years in the 1960s. “Bud” was a lover of all people. He never missed the opportunity to help someone in need. He brought light and joy everywhere he went! “Bud” loved water skiing, snow skiing, roller blading, bicycling, speed walking, traveling and most of all, his family. He is survived by his children Lori Petz of Haviland, Dan (Tracy) Petz of Pratt and Judi (Reini) Reiter of Castle Pines, CO; brother, Leo (Mary) Petz of Aurora, CO; sister, Mary Lou Schutz of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Nick (Annie) Luallin of Portland, OR, Brooke (Kevin) Nealley of Denver, CO, Matthew (Mandy) Higgins of Mound City, KS, Maverick (Britney) Petz of Pratt, Allen Petz of Broken Arrow, OK and Jason (KaiLei) Petz of Pratt; and 13 great-grandchildren. “Bud” is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara Mae Petz; and 6 of his siblings. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Funeral services will be a private ceremony with immediate family only attending, with Father Mike Klag presiding on Friday, November 13, 2020. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in care of Larrison Mortuary.
