Joanne A. Cline

December 5, 1925 - August 14, 2020

Joanne A. Cline, 94, of Houston, TX, formerly of Barber County, KS died Friday, August 14, 2020 at her residence. She was born on December 5, 1925 in Barber County, KS, the daughter of Elmer Angell, Sr. and Erma (Woodcock) Angell. She walked to a one-room schoolhouse, sometimes running a trap-line before school so she could skin the animals and sell the fur. After graduating from high school in Medicine Lodge, she married Billy Gentry Cline. They lived on a ranch at Deerhead, where she kept chili and cinnamon rolls ready if a neighbor got stranded in a snowstorm. She once killed a bobcat she trapped in her chicken house by hitting it with a pipe. She was a member of the DC Club, a 4-H leader, drove the school bus, and groomed dogs. Later in life, she drove an eighteen-wheeler across the country for 13 years and worked in a fish cannery a couple of seasons in Alaska. Her last job was her favorite; she was a nanny for a neighbor’s new daughter, Paige Jones, for six years. After retirement, she built a new home near Mulvane, KS, where she had a big garden, cats, goats, and enjoyed exercising at the Senior Center. She always had time for her grand and great grandchildren and her seven siblings. Surviving are two brothers, Oliver “Ollie” Angell of Wichita, KS and Kendall Angell of Chino, CA; one sister, Darlene Tate of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; two sons, Frank Cline of Medford, Oregon and Robert Cline of Pratt, KS; two daughters, Anne Massey and Linda Sawyer, both of Houston, TX; fifteen grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and husband; one brother, Elmer Angell, Jr.; three sisters, Wenonah Brock, Lucille Crofton, and Geri Tyrell.; her son, Mark Cline; and her grandson, Jason Cline. Public viewing is at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104 from 9:00-10:00 on Saturday, August 22, 2020. Graveside services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS with Dane Massey officiating. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, KS. Condolences may be left at www.larrisonmortuary.com
