Richardson, Texas - George Clinton Nelson Jr., 87, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020 in Tyler. He was born September 7, 1932 in Pratt, Kansas to George Clinton, Sr. and Alta Jenetta (Waters) Nelson. George married Hazel Louise (Baker) Nelson on December 26, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Pratt. They were married for 65 years. George graduated from Pratt High School in 1950 and attended Pratt Junior College. He joined the United States Air Force in 1952 where he was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi until 1956. He went on to receive his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration in 1959 from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. George was a member of Sigma Tau, and Eta Kappa Nu Honor Societies. His career spanned working for Collins Radio, Martin Marietta, Electrospace Systems Inc., owner of a manufacturing representative company and he visited 32 countries on business. When he was 72 he earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences of Real Estate from Richland College and became a Realtor. George was also inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Society while at Richland College. He was also very proud to participate in the K-State mentorship program. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Richardson. He was a Mason, previous member of the Rotary Club in Windermere, Florida and American Legion member. One of his favorite hobbies was Square Dancing with the Heritage Dancers of Dallas, Tx and Kissin’ Kuzzins of Garland, Tx. He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Richardson; son, Derek (Lisa) Nelson of Hinesburg, Vermont; daughter, Darla Adams of Tyler, Texas; and grandchildren, Hannah, Hunter and Heath Adams all of Tyler, Texas and Sarah Nelson of Hinesburg, Vermont. George is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elmer R. Nelson; and an infant sister. He is best remembered by his wife and children as a loving and devoted husband and father who never missed an event if he was in town whether it was Derek’s baseball game or Darla’s Indian Princesses. He was also very devoted to his grandchildren; he would drive from Dallas to Tyler for their events and was supportive of the one following an engineering path. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug 30, with family receiving friends from 6pm-8pm at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Graveside service will be held Monday, Aug 31 at 10am at Sunset Cemetery, Cullison, Ks. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Richardson Texas in care of Larrison Mortuary.
