Geneva Marie Swafford

Geneva Marie McVey Swafford passed away surrounded by family on February 29, 2019. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Larrison Family Mortuary in Pratt, Kansas with Rev. Dr. Jill McCrory and Rev. Dr. Susan Swafford Payne leading the celebration of life. The graveside service will follow the celebration of life at Greenlawn Cemetery, also in Pratt, Kansas. Geneva was born May 4, 1932, in Liberal, Kansas. She was the daughter of Linden I. and Lottie M. Goodhart McVey. On May 5, 1951, she eloped with Lindon L Swafford and were married in Clayton, New Mexico. Geneva was a longtime resident in Pratt County as well as 10 years in Twin Falls, Idaho. Geneva experienced her professional life as an assistant college registrar, dental assistant, and secretary. She was a 1950 graduate of Pratt High School and attended the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho. As a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church, she served in multiple ministries and leadership service capacities. Formerly, she was a member of the Pratt Business and Professional Women and she was a volunteer for the American Cancer Association for many years. Along with being a long-time 4-H Leader, she also served on the Pratt County 4-H Advisory Board. Additionally, she was a certified bowling instructor for the American Junior Bowlers Program and was an enthusiastic bowling competitor participating in five National Championship Tournaments as well as an avid card player with her favorite games being bridge, canasta, and pitch. She is survived by two daughters, Valle Swafford (Rod) of Medicine Lodge and Linda Dickerson (Craig) of Wichita; and a son, Steven W. Swafford of Los Angeles, California. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Stephanie (Rob), Leah (Mike), Ian (Kali), Charlie (Zach), Clayton and four great grandchildren. Preceded her in death were an infant grandson, Drew, her sister, Donell and her husband, Lindon. Additional survivors include her sister, Frances Bunyan and her husband, Jim, of Valley Center. Memorials may be made to Kansas Alzheimer Association or Phoenix Hospice of Wichita in care of Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt.
