Barbara J. Alingh, 80, departed on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham, Kansas. She was born on September 29, 1934 in Cherokee, Iowa, the only child of Melvin and Ella Waddell. She is survived by her husband Al Alingh; son Mike (Pat) Alingh; daughter Candace Hamm; grandchildren Allison Alingh, Ashlyn Alingh, Matthew (Jamie) Hamm, Jacob (Kimber) Hamm, Emily (Josh) Schmidt, Jessie (Will) Symmonds, and Danyel Alingh; great grandchildren Landon Hamm, Hayden Hamm, Ava Hamm, Olivia Hamm, Harrison Hamm, Isaiah Schmidt, Evelyn Schmidt, Amy Alingh, Taylor Alingh, Codie Dunn, Brittnie Dunn, David Holman, JR., Hunter Symmonds and Maddie Symmonds; brother in-law Jerry (Vicky) Alingh; nephew Steve (Janet) Alingh; niece Cathy (Ken) Dohrmann; and great nephew Nicholas Alingh. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kim Alingh and son in-law Alan Hamm. Barbara graduated from Cherokee high school and attended the Christian Church College in Lexington, Kentucky. She with her husband owned and operated a Pratt business named “Alingh’s Crafts” for ten years. The business featured variety store items, crafts and models. Barbara was not only a sales person and bookkeeper for the business, but attended several warehouse programs a year, giving her the ability to teach a variety of crafts to hundreds of customers. As co-owner of Alingh’s Crafts she was instrumental in having two craft shows a year in the Pratt Municipal building which brought hundreds of artistic and crafts oriented men and women to Pratt along with thousands of attendees each year. Although the store was sold, she continued the shows for many years for a total of 49 shows over a span of 25 years. Barbara was involved in the community and was a long term member of Pratt BPW. Because of her willingness to help in many BPW projects she received the Pratt BPW Women of the Year award in 2002. In April 2001, Barb was invited to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee as guest of the Dollywood Foundation to be part of the dedication of “Dream Land Forest” a new addition to Dollywood. Cremation has taken place. A family graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 27, 2015 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, Kansas.
