Arthur L. Slamal

Arthur L. “Art” Slamal, 98, of Medicine Lodge, KS died Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge, KS. He was born on September 24, 1917 in Redlands, CA, the son of Clyde and Florence Olivia “Babe” (Heisey) Slamal. On June 9, 1945 he married Joann (Richardson) Slamal in Medicine Lodge, KS. She preceded him in death on June 6, 2007. Art was an abstractor for over 40 years and owned an insurance business. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Medicine Lodge, KS, where he taught adult Sunday School classes for over 35 years and served as Lay Leader. He was a member of Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, PTA, the Salvation Army service person for the area, and was a Vice President of the Peace Treaty Association. He served in the Army and the Air Force from June 1941 to October 1946, and was discharged at the rank of Major. Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne (Dean) Robinson of Spring, TX and Betty Jo (Rick) Swayden of Medicine Lodge, KS; three granddaughters, Lisa (Randy) DeMars, Kelli Swayden, and Kasey Swayden.; two nieces and two nephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Robert Lee Slamal, his twin daughters, Janice and Joyce Slamal, his brother, Hobart Slamal and his sister, Shirley Kropf. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, KS with Pastor Paul Stephens and Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS.
