Estella Nichols

Estella Mae Nichols, age 100, daughter of Charles and Minnie (Spung) Palmer, was born on March 17, 1912 near Sharon, KS. She died at her home in Medicine Lodge, KS on February 16, 2013.

She married Wayne Eugene Nichols on June 1, 1928, moving to Medicine Lodge to make their new home. To this union, three children were born, twins, Darrel Gene and Dorla Dean were born on March 30, 1931 and Kenneth Eugene was born on March 20, 1933.

Estella was a member of the United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge. She was a private person, pretty much of a “home body”. She enjoyed her family and friends, golfing, fishing, flower gardening, reading, and music (one of her favorite singers was Alan Jackson). Early on, her request was she spend her final days in her home, if possible. She was able to do this, with loving and devoted care from family members, a loving caregiver, Agnes Borden, Wellington Hospice nurses, Kim and Eryn, and visits from Pastor Tom Walters. She also had a special little furry friend and protector, “Daisy.” She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne in December 1981, infant son, Darrel, infant granddaughter, Sheila, three brothers, David, Raymond, and Howard, two sisters, Ruth Rinke and Mary Reichart, and son, Kenneth “Kenny” in August 2010.

Estella is survived by daughter, Dorla (Bob) Crevisour of Rockford, IL; five granddaughters, Pam (Tim) Kinley & Jill (Terry) Bouton of Rockford, IL, Debbie (Burt) McKerchie of Redwood City, CA, Vanessa (Steve) Etheridge and Dawn Mackney of Medicine Lodge, KS; 14 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren; She also leaves a special nephew, Charles (JoAnn) Rinke of Pratt, KS; daughter-in-law, Mary Nichols of Medicine Lodge and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Larrison Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, KS with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS
